Since 2002, the Division 23 Kiwanis Clubs have united to treat the homeless children in Broward County to a very special day, Christmas in July. With the support of the Bank Atlantic Center, Broward County, and local homeless shelters, hundreds of children and their families are brought to the Bank Atlantic Center for a day of fun, games, food, and gifts of shoes, clothing and school supplies.
The first year, 300 homeless children attended. In 2006, we were joined by Division 24 from southern Broward County to expand the event to help the hundreds of children and families relocated to South Florida in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. While many of those families have returned home, we continue to expand the event each year to reach out to the more than 1,000 homeless children in our county.
