| Print |Since opening their doors in 1992, Joe DiMaggio Children's Hosptial has has earned the distinction of being the leading children's hospital in Broward and Palm Beach counties. The premier facility combines leading-edge technology and the expertise of a highly trained medical staff with a setting designed specifically for the care of young patients and their families. Their family of physicians has grown from 72 to 476 doctors and their excellent reputation means more families than ever are turning to them for help.
On October 5, 2009, JDM broke ground on a brand new 4-story children's hospital that will be home to pediatric operating rooms, a 24-bed medical and surgical unit, a 24-bed cancer treatment unit, and a walkway that connects the new hospital with the existing children’s hospital and the Memorial Regional Hospital campus. In addition, the Wasie Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has been expanded and renovated and now includes private rooms and upgraded technological systems. The smallest of babies can now receive the greatest of care.
But before the new hospital can be completed, they need our support. The 2010 Tour de Broward / Walk, Run and Ride for Joe’s Kids hopes to raise $250,000 to contribute towards this expansion of services for the children of our community. And Kiwanis is there to help!!!

A Joe DiMaggio Story
Shortly after her third birthday, Christa was diagnosed with an aggressive pediatric neurological cancer. Her doctor gave her only one week to live.
Treatment began immediately at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital. "Christa was surrounded by a family of doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals who were close, caring and constantly involved," says Christa's mother. At the same time, Christa's family embraced the words "never give up" and fulfilled a promise to surround Christa with love and happiness.
Today, Christa shows no signs of cancer. She is a healthy and vibrant little girl who loves her big brother, her pet beagle Rosie, arts and crafts, and planting flowers in the yard.
